Buddhism in Andhra flourished for over 2000 years as one of the important religions, right from 5th century B.C. to 14th century A.D. as confirmed by archaeologists. The phases of Buddhism flourished over period of long time through the teachings of various Buddhist Schools of Hinayana, Mahayana and Vajrayana. Amravati

Buddhist sites of Andhra PradeshIt is a unique temple for the Hindus as well as Buddhist Destinations in India. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva apart from other Buddhist Sculptures. It has the largest and the oldest stupa in the world. Amravati is 65 kms from Vijawada, and its ruins of 2000 years old are the main attractions for the tourists. It is said that the invasion of King Ashoka had brought Buddhism at Amravati. It shall also not be out of place to mention that Amravati was considered a much larger stupa than the stupa situated at Sanchi. Now, it is preserved by the Government in a museum at Chennai.

Anupu

The site is 4 km away from the reservoir of Nagarjuna Sagar. It is said that Acharya Nagarjuna has founded here one of the major Buddhist Learning centre.

Nagarjuna Konda

The Buddhist discovery of the stupas, mandapas, chaityas, etc. carved in white marble depicts the life of Buddha.
