Dharamsala is a peaceful town situated on the high slopes of Kangra Valley. It is the seat of holiness of the 14th Dalai Lama, with Dhauladar Mountains at the backdrop of the town, making it a mesmerizing tourist spot. The town is divided into two parts, namely the Upper Dharamsala and the Lower Dharamsala with difference of about 1000 m in altitude. It is a charming town of the refugees from Tibet.

Buddhist Attractions in Dharamsala

The main Buddhist attractions for tourists are the places like Mcleodganj, Dharamkot, Triund etc. Dharamsala situated in Himachal Pradesh is the main Buddhist attraction fro its art, architecture and culture.

McLeod Ganj is the principal pilgrimage site for the tourists from all over the world. Back in 1959 the town was visited by Dalai Lama as the leader of the Tibetan Buddhism along with thousands of refugees. They gradually settled here, dedicating their life to the study of Buddhist religion. It is said that Dharamsala had started to be called as Tibetan Government in exile headed by Leader Dalai Lama. Therefore, McLeod Ganj turned into a major Buddhist centre with monks dedicating their life for Buddha.

Another beautiful site to capture by the tourists is the Namgyal Monastery, which is the home of Holy Dalai Lama and is a replica of a monastery of Lhasa in Tibet.
