Vaishali district is situated 60 Km from the capital city of Bihar, Patna. This is the last place where Lord Buddha has taught his last sermon. Buddha had visited vaishali after five years of attaining enlightenment. Ashok Pillar at Kolhua was built by emperor Ashoka. It is polished sculpture made out of red sandstone. It stands as high as 18.3 m and is surrounded by bell shaped capital. On the side of the statue lay the Brick Stupa which was made in the memory of Lord Buddha. This threw light on Buddha’s preaching of his Last sermon to his followers.Abhiskek Pushkarn which is also known as the “coronation Tank” served as the place of coronation ceremonies of elected representatives. Another famous Stupa built in the memory of Buddha is Shanti Stupa which lies on the South of the coronation tank.
Another must visit is the Vaishali Museum, where remains of antiques discovered from various places of Vaishali. One of the Stupa was made to keep the funeral ashes of Lord Buddha.
It is said that sacred ashes of Buddha was preserved in a stone casket and was found while excavating in the place in the year around 1958.

At the time of Buddha stay at Vaishali, Kutagarashala Vihara was erected as one of the holy monastery. It is Just about 3 km away from the relic Stupa.
The Japanese Nichiren, the modern day Buddhist devotee had built this World Peace Pagoda near the Coronation Tank and the Japanese temple. Relics were displayed in this very foundation.
