Kapilvastu is located approximately 27 kilometres from Lumbini in Siddharthnagar district of Uttar Pradesh. It is now popularly known as Piprahwa, which was earlier used to be the capital of the Shakya kingdom. After a long archaeological surveys which was been conducted by various scholars, considered Kapilavasthu to be a place related Kushana Period.
The other major attractions include stupas co-memorizing relics of Lord Buddha built by Ashoka and the Gupta Kings. Among the famous archaeological sites, Eastern Stupa was founded in 1973-74 after archaeologists discovered several seals and inscriptions. This was depicted as one of the golden era of Buddhism existed at one time.
The ruins of Royal Palace were excavated represent significant of early day lives of Gautam Buddha. The ruins of Lord Buddha’s Father Suddhodana were also found at this place. Those were the days that Buddha has spent his golden days of early age.
Mahinda Mahavihara Stupa was named after King Ashoka’s Son. This offered several religious practices which had been preached in Buddhism.
