Swayambhunath StupaKathmandu being the capital of Nepal lies on the Himalayan range surrounded by agricultural hills. The major Buddhist attractions for the visitors are Boudhnath Stupa. It is located at a distance of around 7 km from Kathmandu and known as the Khasti Chitya in local Language. The gateway of this stupa leads to the Buddhist Five symbols depicting these elements as Buddha’s components of meditation. Our recommendation is to walk clockwise around this stupa. These elements are Water, Air, fire and earth, light and the gateway is colourfully adorned.


Swayambhunath is the favourite landmark destination of Buddhist shrine in Kathmandu. The stupa holds it’s important for the Vajrayana Buddhists of Northern Nepal and Tibet. The predominant features of this dome are the six statues of Lord Gautam Buddha. The stupa throws a light on the preaching Buddha, representing four directions towards enlightenment of oneself.


Chabahil Stupa is located on the west of Boudhnath Stupa. The stupa portrays the life of Lord Gautama Buddha, throwing light on each events of his life. It is said that the stupa is surrounded by several number of chaityas which depict the Licchavi period. It is one of the finest stupa with Buddhist sculptures making it more mesmerizing to study.


The saint Gorakhnath meditated in the caves which were later named after him as Gorakhnath & Ashura Cave. This is surrounded by temple dedicated in the name of Guru Rinpoche who was the one to have introduced Buddhism in Tibet. It has been a belief by the Buddhist monks and devotees that the caves are the entry place of demons to the kingdom.
