Sanctum-Sanctorum is the Birthplace of Lord Buddha.


Maya Devi temple has been built in the memory of Gautam Buddha’s mother, Maya Devi. This has become one of the major Nepal Buddhist Tour Destination for the tourists from abroad. The splendid sculpture that has been engraved is Buddha standing upright on a lotus petal and his mother under the Sal tree. This temple is believed to have been built 2000 years back. This is indeed amazing that the temple has been excavated and has been restored for people to learn about the rich culture of Buddhism.


Next major Buddhist destination for the tourists is Ashoka’s Column. It is the oldest column of Nepal and King Ashoka as its patron. He influenced to build this column in the memory of Lord Buddha.


Pushkarni is another holy place at Lumbini, which is a sacred pool located south of Ashokan Pillar. The purification of Gautam Buddha was at this sacred pool.


The other important Buddhist destinations are Kapilvastu which is just 27 km away from Lumbini and represents the true face of the Shakya Dynasty, China Temple and Japan Peace Stupa which comprises of four statues of Lord Buddha.


One can reach to these Buddhist destinations by air as well as by road. Kathmandu being the International airport is nearest to Lumbini. Also one can take the flight from Bhairahawa which is half hour drive form Lumbini.
